My Durango sits outside during the warmer months and the sun faded the rear black plastic guard on the top of the rear bumper. It appears that it may just snap off the bumper. Does anyone know for sure? I am having a friend of my Uncle make one out of stainless (not diamond plate) so I would need the plastic piece as a template. I do not want to break it taking it off.

I had a similar issue with the black portion of mine becoming more of a dull gray due to sun and age.

While having some rust work done, I had them check it out. They determined that the black pad is not separate, but integral to the rear bumper cover.

I had them prep and paint the pad to match the body and have been quite happy with it.

Get a can of Krylon Satin for plastic and roll of frog tape and some newspaper, $10 and 30 minutes later you are all set.

scuff it with a scotchbrite pad wash and dry then tape and a few coats. 2 winters later still looks great, if you scrach it touch up is a snap.

MIKEon22s what year is your Durango? They must have changed the rear bumper as my black 'skid plate' does not curl over the edge. I tried to lift mine and it does appear it is glued on top of the bumper which hopefully I can separate without breaking it.

I believe in 2007-2009 the pad became removable... but not sure how to properly remove it.
