Default 2007 Whinning noise

So here's my question I have an 07 Durango 88,000 mile now and I hve a loud whining noise coming from the rear. I bought the vehicle with 12,000 miles on it and noticed a slight whining then. I took it back to the dealer and they said they didn't really hear it but, they replaced the whole rear. 5,000 miles later while on vacation I heard it again....and again I took it to a dealership...they said the race was off...they repalced the rear. Now almost 5 years later the noise is back and louder than ever!!!!! i noticed I had a leak in the rear and replaced the seal but the noise is still there!!!!
So here my questions: 1 What could the noise be?
2 any thoughts on how to approach the dealer
now?

I would stay away from the dealer unless it is under warranty. They might have put the wrong viscosity of axle grease in it.

Monster,

I would certainly stay away from the dealer you took it to if they said they didn't hear the noise the first time but replaced the whole rear end anyway. Then did it again and now the noise is still there. I found one TSB that may be related to your issue. See below.

NUMBER: 03-001-08
GROUP: Axle
DATE: March 14, 2008

SUBJECT:
Rear Axle Whine-Like Sound - Only At Vehicle Speeds Greater Than 55 MPH
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the installation of a body/frame damper at the C-Pillar.
MODELS:
2004 - 2007 (HB/HG) Durango / Aspen
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
While driving, the customer may experience an axle whine-like sound coming from the rear
of the vehicle (rear axle). The specific axle whine-like sound will occur when the rear axle
is fully warm and only at vehicle speeds that are greater than 88 Km/h (55 MPH). The rear
axle whine-like sound will occur more frequently during light acceleration (drive side), or
while maintaining vehicle speed (off throttle / coast) driving maneuvers.
This condition may be due to the axle sound being transmitted into the vehicle body
through the C-Pillar body/frame mount.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the above condition is present perform the Repair Procedure.
NOTE: The Repair Procedure will REDUCE the axle whine-like sound intensity, and
only if the condition occurs when the axle is fully warm and at speeds
GREATER THAN 88 km/h (55 MPH).
PARTS REQUIRED:
Qty. Part No. Description
2 52122188AA Damper, C-Pillar Mass
4 04895415AB Spacer (washer - two per side)
2 06508823AA Screw / Bolt

Sounds like that may be your problem...

Either that or you have a teenager in back seat...
