I have 04 Durango. I just rolled over 214,000 miles a couple of weeks ago.
I do have the noise when first starting up but all is good.

140,000 scares me.. How miles are people getting out of their durango's?
Our current Durango that had the same setup as yours is still running at 320k miles. It's only just now showing signs of possibly dropping a cylinder.

Did you say It dropped a valve ? There's you're answer 140.000. That's about right for those motors.
."It's only my opinion"~BUT I think the 4.7 is the worst motor Dodge ever put in a truck..It's a good design , and would work , but they didn't make the oil ports big enough , so they don't get a good oil flow inside..Most people don't know the oil weight difference and use 10w30 in them so they gum up..The only good thing about a nice truck with a 4.7 is the fact that there not hard to find with a bad motor , and a Hemi swap ain't that hard.. I'm driving a Ram Hemi Thanks to the 4.7 going bad at 144.000 miles..

Sorry to hear about you're truck Hammer ~ You gonna put a Hemi in it ?
I have a 2007 4.7 flex fuel. I tow my dirt late model about 90 miles almost every weekend. Knock on wood other than 2 water pumps no major issues 174,380 and going strong. It's crucial to change your oil regularly. I've had several people tell me they like to gum up in the cylinder heads if you don't stay on top of the oil changes.

I have an 04 Durango with a 4.7 and I replaced the motor and trans at 240,000 miles because I wanted to, it still ran fine but was a little noisy. I hope I get the same amount of use from the rebuild.
