Whats invovled in a Hemi swap?
I have a '05 durango with the 4.7L I was wondering what was invovled in a Hemi swap. Would I need to replace the whole motor or can I just put different cylinder heads on the 4.7L?
Thanks
Thanks
The 4.7 has overhead Cams . The 5.7 Hemi is a single , like the chevy 350 or ford 351..
There are chains that run up to the heads and roll the overhead cams on the 4.7 , so nothing from a 4.7 is interchangeable .. If you want to know how to put a Hemi Motor in a Durango , go to Dakota Hemi Swap with pics..The great thing about putting a Hemi in a Dak. or Durango from 2004~up is the computer.. You're computer setup is going to be basically the same , where my 2001 Dakota had a ecm & tcm .. It was a nightmare , and even after buying the 2003 wiring harness I still had to build my harness and blend it into my PDC.. Then you have the fact that Durango's came with a Hemi from 04' ~ up , So you shouldn't have a big problem getting motor mounts and maybe even the right oil pan so you don't have to notch the cross member or build an oil pan.. It's not a hard swap for a 05` Durango and you'll love the extra HP and better mpg..
