Default 04 Durango Side View Mirror

Foolishly I attempted to remove a $2.00 "fisheye" mirror off my drivers side mirror, and shattered my mirror glass. That being said, Can the mirror glass itself be replaced, or do I have to replace the entire housing also?

The 2004 Dodge Durango mirror is auto-dim, heated and folding.

Thank you,

Default Oil from broken heated rear view mirror.

Along with my original post, I now have issue #2. The oil that was in between the 2 panes of mirror glass, is now all over my drivers side door and dried. I have washed it, attempted to take off with cleaner wax, with no luck. What actually is the type of oil in the mirror, and what safely can be used to take it off my paint job?

Thank you.

I am sorry that I am not much help with problem # 2, but I have a solution to problem # 1. Check Rock Auto for the mirror, I think your best option would be to replace the whole thing, but you can buy just the glass instead. However, because you have the auto dim feature, the mirrors do get a bit pricier.

paint thinner will not touch automotive paint(it will however strip any wax off the paint, i would wash and rewax immediately) you can try that to get the oil off, also try a clay bar if that doesnt work, i cant guarantee it but i have yet to find anything that a clay bar wont take off with enough patience.
