Default hemi head swap question

Looks like im picking up an 04 durango and im worried about it busting a spring and dropping a valve. My question is what heads are interchangeable with the 04 block? Can i use 09 heads to pick up some extra hp or do i have to keep them 05-08 heads?

2008 had variable valve timing so I do not think they will interchange with earlier heads.

Jon:
A good start is to find out the build date of the Durango you are looking at. Also, how many miles and number of owners, etc.

There are a few sites you can take the VIN to and get the service history. Possibly the engine has already been replaced or repaired.

Some folks have just bitten the bullet and replaced the valve springs as a preventative measure.

For the Durango, the 06 and newer Hemi head engines had the MDS system, so you will probably have to stay with 04-05 if you decide to replace the entire head.

The durango im looking at is a one owner with 86k miles and the dealer is checking with dealer to see what has been done through recall and warranty for me. After doing some more homework ill stick with the same year heads and just replace the spring with 6.1L exhaust springs.
