Default Custom air intake for HEMI powered Durango

Hi there,

I am looking at increasing my engine's performance in terms of both HP but also in terms of mileage. I have been looking at K&N and at MOPAR for the parts I am looking for but as I am a novice when it comes to this sort of thing, I thought I would ask someone here to point me in the right direction.

What would be the best system to achieve what I am trying to do? What would the cost be once it's all said and done?

Cheers!

Keeping it stock would probably be the best bet for gas mileage. Ported cylinder heads, exhaust headers, exhaust system and a tune will help improve the horsepower. You can put it on a Dyno to fine tune the engine. It will be hard to find an AWD dyno if yours is equipped with it.

Whatever frees up restriction on the intake and the exhaust side would improve the MPG. The engine is just an air pump. The easier it is to draw air in and push it out, the easier it will work and make more power. The trick is to keep your foot out of it.

You may find running. 89 octane over 87 may increase mpg. I did on a recent trip in my new to me 04 hemi Durango. The engine is factory optimized for 89, but can run on 87.
I saw about 2mpg hand calculated.

I would use the cruise control as it will save a few MPG. The money you put into increasing the horsepower will never negate the cost of keeping it almost stock for the benefit of a gas mileage. Increasing horsepower will usually lower the MPG unless it is a simple filter, exhaust system or cold air intake system.
