04 Rango Trailer Wiring
I have an 04 Rango that I had a hitch and wiring installed on a few years ago. I hooked up my tent trailer and noticed I only had left side brake lights on the trailer. Started looking at the wiring on the trailer, and coundn't find anything. Hooked it up to another vehicle, and of coure everything worked fine. I found that I have power to the "converter" that was installed, but not coming out. I also noticed that after playing with the wiring, the brake light power is now constant to the trailer. My guess is that this "self-powered" converter is bad.
Is there anyway to avoid using a powered converter and just run the wires directly from each of the lights like in the old days?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

That's what I was thinking. I talked to a local shop this morning and they said I have to have the splitter/converter, but could not give me a reason why. Just kept saying it will only work that way.
factory harness? i had the same problem once and it turned out to be a fuse up front. This "power converter" sounds like a joke, the way the harness should be done is a relay that is triggered when your brake lights are on, but the power for the lights is run up to the fuse box or battery. G
Good Luck!

Not factory harness. Had it installed with my hitch a few years ago. I talked to a couple places and found out that the powered converter has to be used in order to keep from frying the TIPM which controls the voltage and amperage. So wiring the old fashion way it's out and I will be sending $50-$60 on a new harness...
