Buy a Prius
1. Check your air filter and plugs. Make sure they're clean and the plugs are gapped correctly.
2. Keep your air pressure at the proper pressure.
3. No idea what type of traffic you're in, but keep a light foot on the throttle. If you keep it around 2,000 rpms, you'll be fine. Just roll into and out of the throttle as if there is an egg under the pedal.
I can get around 16mpg in town and over 21 on the highway (keeping it around 70-75mph) in the Durango in my sig below.
The wife on the other hand gets 13.5/19-ish. She's always on/off the throttle hard and I keep trying to get her to stop that but you know how well they listen to us.
