Question 2004 Durango headlight blink out and blower motor for ac/heater

Hi...I am learning first hand that the 04 durango is full of issues. We have gotten the overheating under control (at the current), and now more issues. Immediately after having the overheating resolved, the AC would come on "when it wanted". Thought it was the relay's at first because my hubby pounded on the dash once and it came on, but then come to find out if you tap (sometimes pretty hard and multiple times) on the motor on the passenger side foot area, it will kick on. So, I'm assuming that's the part that needs replaced. Then I noticed going to work one night that my headlights every now and then would shut off and come back on within a couple seconds, but would continue the whole 10 minute drive....stay on for a minute, then click off, on, off, on, off. The dash lights stay on...and I think the running lights stay on. It was doing it about once a week or so, and it's been going on for a couple months now, but now it is almost every night I work. So....I'm wondering if the lights and blower are related electrically????? Anyone else have this issue, had it resolved, or have any educated suggestions on where to start? Any feedback is much appreciated! Love this truck, but WOW!!! Tired of the issues here!!!

Not saying this is related but could be. The '04 Durango has a national recall to replace the instrument cluster at the dealerships (FREE) because of there being an electrical fire hazard. Several of the '04 models have literally burned to the ground with no warning whatsoever so contact your dealership, give them your vin code and have them check to make sure it's been replaced.

The 2004 is plagued by recalls.

Another way to check is type in your vin number in the 'Recall Search' and it will show if any are outstanding.

A huge source for electrical gremlins in these for me has been the Junction Block behind the left kick panel drivers side. Not to be confused with the Junction Block under the hood that's beside the PDC. It might be worth the effort to take a look at it, unplug and look at all of the connectors, make sure all the fuses are seated well.

And yes, the clusters are nuts too.

Thank you all for the info. I will double check the vin to ensure the recalls are taken care of, and check into the Junction Block. Thanks again all!

I have an '06 and I have the same exact issue with the blower on the A/C unit to where you hit the black box on the passenger side it will work properly. When I get home today I can tell you what the problem is and how much it approximatly cost. I just had mine at the dealer last week.

Also I just had the instrument cluster panel issue fixed but that doesn't effect the electrical issue with your head lights. I have a problem with one of my blinkers where sometimes the right rear works, and sometimes it doesn't. I can have it on before I get to my turn, then it stops blinking and I get the rapid blinking indicating one of them is out but even after the recall on the instrument cluster, it still does the same.

ok this is from the dealer about the A/C. "circuit blower motor intermittantly working, internal issue will need motor. Blower motor replacement $282." Of course thats from the dealer. I can find cheaper.

I watched a youtube video, and it looks fairly easy (aside from awkwardness of position) to even replace it on my own. Probably save a couple hundred. I just find it strange that it (the blower) started blinking out and then the headlights back to back. Maybe coincidence, but I really wonder if it all maybe electrical. Still tryin to get into check the recalls. Thanks for all the feedback...keep me posted if you find anything else out.

Re-read your original post and it sounds like you may have a bad or loose ground wire connection. As a general rule the grounds for the interior stuff are located behind either or both the kick panels. Normally it will be a stud, screw or bolt into the metal with several wires attached. Check to make sure they're tight and/or need cleaning.
