Default Durango'05: Cruise Control & Tow/Hawl relationship

Hi guys!

I have a 05 Durango SLT with the 4.7L engine. Great confortable and family SUV. It pays in every mode except in the Gas but my two little girls happy face with the DVD player makes me forget about it.

Well... my question: if I turn on the Cruise Control and activate the Tow/Hawl mode the transmissions keeps operating as usual (changes from 4th to 5th as needed). But, If I cancel the Cruise Control then the trans keeps the 4th gear longer. I tried this going on a long uphill (on highway).

Is this a normal operation? I thought that the Tow/Hawl bottom will keep the trans on the 4th no matter the conditions and whether or not the Cruise Control is activated. Like the Overdrive button

Comments?

Thanks,

The two should not go hand in hand. If your climbing steep hills you don't want to have on cruise control because of all the shifting. Then your better off pushing tow/haul and locking out 5th. When you turn on cruise control you should be on pretty consitant grades or carrying enough speed to be able to hold yourself in 5th.

Bottom line...don't use both at the same time. However the vehicle won't allow itself to be hurt, that is why when your in cruise and you hit tow/haul it won't lock out 5th at all.
