2006 durango cooling/engine trouble (in the right section)
2006
Dodge Durango SLT 4x4
4.7L V8
My car is losing coolant where I need to refill the reservoir every 30 days or so. The engine oil looks normal, no coolant smell from the exhaust. I can't find any signs of leaks anywhere. When I drive I will have the heater on but cool air will come out, normally when the temperature gauge is close to 3/4 of the way hot. I am lost on this. It only has 62000 miles on it, and haven't had any problems. Not sure if there is air in the system or what?

Scott:
The factory coolant in your D is only good for 5 years OR 100K miles. Have you had the system flushed and the coolant replaced?
It sounds like you have a small leak somewhere that is allowing coolant to drip onto a part of the engine where is is evapaorating away and not making it to the ground.
There is an air burping procedure to get all of the air purged from the 4.7 engine which should be done if the system is serviced.
You may have trapped air in there causing the coolant to not flow properly.

If you happened to be like me when you were a kid. Did things like sniffed model car glue, ate paint chips off the window sill, set your sisters' Barbie corvette on fire and sent it rolling down the driveway with Barbie in it....then you have probably melted a few crayons on an electric heater or wood burning stove too.
The PINK/ORANGE coolant leaves a trail on metal EXACTLY like the melted crayons, especially on hot aluminum. You may never even see the coolant hit the ground. Look around for trails of very bright pink deposits around the front of the engine particularly, and anywhere else.
