Default mess changing oil

I bought my 2007 Hemi Durango back in October. Yesterday I changed the oil for the second time and ended up making a bigger mess than the first time. Who decided the cross member would work best in the path of the oil exiting the oil pan!? And who thought it was ok to have to tip the oil filter on it's side to get it out??? Am I the only one that has this problem?

So anyhow, I am wondering if there are any tricks to making it not so messy. I am thinking about buying a quick drain oil plug that allows you to hook up a hose and drain the oil in a slow, but controlled manner. Any ideas on the oil filter? Relocation kit?

I feel your pain and usually do it myself but now I just let Walmart do it. I bring my own oil and filter and they do the work for around $30 I think. I check the plug and filter when I get home and no mess.

Use a large catch can then there is no mess. I know the oil pan bolt is in a crappy area, but it didn't go everywhere.

I would be real cautious on letting walmart do it. They stripped out the plug on my 02 stratus. It does ever tighten down anymore and I will likely have to replace the pan since it still drips slightly when parked. I should have just run the car an extra week when I had the garage cleared vs letting those idiots touch the car.

This is true, they stripped the head off the drain plug on the charger and tried to blame me. I had words with the manager and they covered all the costs. They know me now and I sit there and talk to them while they do the work so I can keep an eye on the car but for the most part no issues now. I still change my own oil on the SRT8 though. Nobody touches that but me

I would but its been over a year ago. I just refuse to take any of my cars anywhere unless I can't possibly do the job (which isn't much).

I don't know if you have ever used Rock Auto dot com, but I have been using it more and more and really like it. If you can wait a few days, its well worth it.
