Default 2004 acting crazy......HELP

i have 2004 Durango and today while driving it acted like it wasn't wanting to shift into 2nd...and was idle surging while in park....so I disconnected the battery in hopes of resetting the computer...and now its worse...its not shifting right and the rear heat is not blowing heat only cold air..on any setting... but the front is working fine... and now if I leave it idle it idles at about 500 rpm but surges between that and 1200....and then will drop down and die after about 30 seconds does anyone know what could cause this and how to fix it and the cheapest way.....thanks

The blend door needs replaced for your heater problem. Do any codes show up for the transmission problem? I was driving to work about a year ago (60,000 miles on odometer) and I noticed my engine was at 3000 RPM instead of 2000 RPM while driving on the turnpike. I got into work and when I restarted my car a code showed up for the transmission. Well, $3200.00 later the code and transmigration were fixed. How many miles are on your Durango and have you ever changer the ATF+4 fluid in the transmission?
