Picked Up A 04 Durango 5.7.....Problems!!
Hey everyone, I finally picked up an 04 durango for my wife, got it cheap from an auction yard..heres the specs....04, 5.7 hemi,4x4,3rd row seat, dvd,w yada yada..70k miles, magaflow exhaust.
Wont start... heres what ive checked;
Has spark(checked front plug wire, not coil wire)
Fuel pressure goes up between 55 and 60 and slowly drops
Checked fuses and relays
Found a broke ground wire and fixed
Found breather tube from oil is or was spitting oil on air filter(pics)
Got 3 codes....
b223d-air bag
b1ba6-air bag
b210d- low voltage or bad groung( battery was dead when i got it plus broken ground.)
If I turn key on,cel stays lit, then blinks, then stays lit.
Im gonna check compression tomorrow.
Dont think its security because that causes it to die after a few seconds, mine will crank but not start..seems to be turning over fairly slow but not sure..
Any other ideas? Thanks

ok got 2 more codes today...
po562- another low voltage code
po700- read its a tranny code but also can be generic code which could be caused by low voltage and or bad pcm...any more ideas?
Getting battery tested today but if thats good what could it be?

So I hear but theres still got to be a diagnosis.. I switched asd relay and reconnected the battery, now it tries harder to start and backfires through the intake..help narrow down the problem? Thanks
ok, its getting spark and fuel, tested both front cylinders and gauge doesnt even move so no compression. cranked it over and seen piston moving..I would assume if it was a head gasket it would have compression for a bit,so is the head way warped or valve problem?Found out what orginally happend, hole in radiator and motor overheated...

Found the problem. Durango overheated, so I took heads off and found that 6 valve seats dropped and jammed at an angle so pistons were hitting the seats and intake valves couldnt close all the way(reason for backfire out intake). So new heads for sure, what Im worried about is, the pistons hit the seats and now have a half moon shape indent in tops..so im worried did it pput extra stress on rods and bend or crack them? I found a hemi engine rebuild kit for $700 and a machine shop will clean and put kit in for about $700 if i pull the motor and take it in. Ill get some pics in a little bit to show you guys what im talking about. What are your thoughts???
