Default 08 Durango

Going to be picking up an 08 Durango SLT 5.7L with 108 000 km this week. Just wondering if there is anything I should keep an eye out for. I have heard of the famous oil sludge problem on a few occasions but what are the common problematic things I should be on the lookout for?

Joe,

Congratulations on your purchase. There are no known issues that I am aware of, but as Fascistfaction advised, you might want to check to see if there are any outstanding recalls and update the vehicle's current owner information. You can do that by contacting the Customer Care Department at 1-800-465-2001, or you can PM me your Vin#, name, mailing address and phone number. I can also send you a build sheet, which is a list of options the vehicle came equipped with from factory.

Keep me posted.

Default Potential Problems

I have 61,307 miles on mine (almost 100,000 KM) and have experienced the following:

New tires at 60,300 (Original Wranglers were still good but winter was approaching).

Outer tierod ends 2 weeks ago at 60,700 ($321 USD to replace at Sears).

When at Sears, told I needed ball joints, but it looks like I will get another 5-8,000 miles out of these, nothing really noticable. Someone else on here replaced at 68,000, so that sounds good to me.

Need new rear discs very soon (I mean very, LOL, looked at them yesterday and they are very thin).

I need to do copper plugs at 64,000, was off by 4,000 initially (did at 34,000), but you will know when they need replacement, big loss of power; $250 USD or so at dealer and elsewhere.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info Harvey, I have only noticed a few hiccups to date, tranny cooler hose leaking very little, knock in the front end when on rough roads (suspecting ball joints). Other than that it runs great. A little hard on gas but not nothing extreme. The oil has been changed by the dealer but I will be swapping that for some mobil1 synthetic very soon. It appears the plugs have been changed, took one out and gap is good. Gonna get it over the pit and lifted to check for tie rod and ball joint problems to be safe. Oh and a warped rotor in the rear, gonna have to check that out as well. Wish they had drums in the rear end...
