Default 1st oil change

People tell me I should change the oil on my 05 Hemi Durango now that I have put my 1st 1000 miles on it.
Is this true? I've never owned a brand new car before.

Speaking of oil, what would you people recommend as far as oil brand / weights?
Mobil 1 or Mobil clean 5000 ? Castrol GTX or Syntec? Others?

Thanks!

Don't worry about the first 1000 miles. Just wait until you get 3000. As far as what type of oil (synthetic or non-synthetic) that is your choice. Synthetic you could go about 5000 - 7500 miles per change. Mobil 1 5w-30 is probably your best choice. If you decide to use non-synthetic, your choice is pretty wide open. Just go with the recommended viscosity 5w-30 or 5w-20, check your owners manual as DCX did switch to the lighter 5w-20. Make sure you change every 3000 if your using non-synthetic.

THE FACTORY USES A SYNTHETIC 5W30 OIL,AND SO DO THE DEALERS.ALSO,THE HEMI5.7 ENGINE IS A 7 QUART CAPACITY WITH A FILTER CHANGE.DON'T WORRY ABOUT CHANGING OIL AT 1000 MILES-TODAY'S ENGINES ARE BUILT FAR BETTER THAN THE EARLY ONES AND DON'T REQUIRE BREAK-IN PROCEDURES.HOPE THIS HELPS!

you stated you have a 05 hemi which i believe requires a 5w20 oil. the reason they went to a 5w20 weight oil is they were having problem with the mds operating properly with heavier weight oils. Also for warranty issues i would stick with the suggested weight. Look in your owners manual or on the oil fill cap for the proper weight oil. As for synthetic or organic I would go synthetic as a choice you won't be disappointed.

im running a 10w-30 synthetic oil made by AMSOIL. They say that AMSOIL is the first company to make a synthetic oil. Ive been running this stuff in all my vehicles for about 7 years now.

GOOD STUFF

My father-in-law was employed with Mobil-1 as a field rep and a tester. He has tested all oils in the lab and tested them throughly. Mobil-1 is the best synthetic on the market and has been for a while. I’ve run my own tests on his theory and miked out the motor myself and came up with the same results.

As for oil changes: I would always change my oil on a brand new motor within the first 500 miles to get the molly grease out of the crank case from them building the motor, and on rebuilds the same. On my last rebuild on my D I did it at 125 miles. Get the grease out of your crank case![sm=bounceybounce.gif]

As for AMSOIL they are bearly meeting the feds specifications, just read the back of the bottle, and check the feds sight.
