2004 durango 5.7 smoking white&blue small tick?!?!?
k just purchased a 04 durango i thought it needed a head gasket ...no thats not the case..has the 5.7 hemi 140,xxx miles clean as a pin.pulled 2 codes a p0700 trans control malfunction i think is what it read, an a code for voltage to low..the durango will start up an smokes ALOT sometimes white smoke sometimes blue..it will idle about where it should..rpms wont go over 4k then slowly drops to about 3600 if you just hold the throttle down..checked compression has good compression on all cyl.also has a loud tick when first starting sometimes it stays for a min or sometimes it just does it when it first starts up..got valve covers off everything seems intact.. got oil filter off not the first sign of any metal not even glittery perfectly clean..my mechanic said sounds like busted/cracked piston im just not thinking that ,could this thing be in limp mode? please any suggestions on what my problem may be will be greatly appreciated!

Most engines today including the D have RPM limits set by the PCM to prevent engine/powertrain damage.
Usually in neutral and park, they are limited around 4K.
You need to know if you don't already that a number of the 04 engines and a few of the 05 engines had serious issues with both valve springs and clearance/bearing issues on the crank.
In both instances, the end result is either a dropped valve or a rod through the side of the block!
You may want to be a little more easy going on that engine lest you bring about one of the above failures.
With the smoking that you describe, there must be some issue amiss that should be solved sooner than later.
The Hemi does have a ticking sound that is normal, but if the noise is not this then you need to investigate further.
If you have the valve covers off, I would go ahead and replace the valve springs as a preventative measure as long as the rest of the engine is sound.
Otherwise, as total rebuild or replacement is in order.
