Default 2005 durango limited 49k miles

I HAVE A 2005 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED WITH 49K MILES BOUGHT 3 YRS AGO WITH 33K MILES
MY PROBLEM IS THE DRIVER SIDE REAR FLAIR FENDER BELOW THE GAS CAP, YOU CAN SEE THE RUST STARTING IN A FEW PLACES AND THE PAINT STARTING TO BUBBLE.

Going to try and fix myself but am wondering why this has happened its been there for the past 2 yrs and has gotten a bit worse the past yr.

Has anyone had this happen to their Durango in this location?

Seems the plastic under the wheel well has a open space for water and dirt from the tire to collect in that location bad design from dodge I think.

Well gonna wait for a good sunny day to sand down the rust and treat the rust and re bondo. I bought the matching paint from a company on line that suppose to match my paint it called Kaki brown. Local stores do not have my color.

I will post the results when I finish

Yup, my 04 is the same. I fixed it once, but its come back again a year later.
I also had it on the back hatch under the chrome plastic handle. Was that way when I bought the unit used last year. For the back the plastic rubs through the paint, then water gets in behind and rusts it.

Below the gas cap it may be rusting through from behind, so short of cutting it out or trying to sand blast and seal the back of that piece I suspect its going to keep coming back.

Mine is starting to rust in the same spot. My charcoal canister purges down tthe same spot. Coincidentally, my gas tank used to purge fuel and it would run down the quarter panel in the exact same spot......

DSS:
Both rear fenders in this area are known locations for rust on the Gen 2 D. My 04 has it on both sides, although the driver side is worse than the passenger side.
I have had both sides repaired once already. The body fellow tells me it was not the first repair.

Congrats on the low mile Gen 2 D you have there. My 04 is at 83K.
