Default All wheel drive to 2 wheel drive

ok so Im looking to take my gfs durango thats a 2008 4.7L Slt out of all wheel drive and make it a solo 2x4 with out removing the front drive shaft or having the anti roll over come on. when i called dodge they told me that there wasnt anything i can do and that i couldn't change from Only All wheel drive to selective 4x4. if anyone knows or have any idea on this i would love to hear them.

Does the D have a T case shift **** on the dash? If so, you may be able to install an NV233HD transfer case which would give you 2wd, 4Hi and 4low.

If you have 4 lock, you can remove the front drive shaft and run it that way.
If I may ask, why do you want to defeat the many benefits of AWD?

ok so there is no switch at all. the tcase has no actuator so i would just be spinning the case in dead air and i was told that is bad on the case. also i want to take it off because my wife has a led foot and keeps braking half shafts out front. (70K and replaced both twice in 7 months) so theres that. also looking for a little gas mileage but i think running the headers and flowmaster will do that trick considering i cant get the mileage ill just get the power. (the wife dont like the idea yet. but oh well).

I do remember reading about the new AWD option for 2008 that did not have a T case switch.
I myself would not like that.

Does your 08 have the Hemi, or the upgraded gen 2 4.7 with 303 hp?
I have never heard of anyone breaking half shafts on a stock Durango.
The outer CV boots on both my half shafts dry rotted at 53K, and were replaced under the 7/70 powertrain warranty for $100 not long after I bought it.

There may be something else amiss since you have been through two sets.

its has the upgraded 4.7L with 303 hp. because i dynoed this truck yesterday and it has to be way more then 303 brake HP because after the awd tire run its was 286hp and 256TQ and im turning 245/65/18. and the only thing i have dont was cut the trash cant muffler out and put a super 40 flowmaster EVERYTHING else is STOCK right down to the intake filter is a mopar filter. so idk if i just got lucky and got a great motor or what.

but on to my newest issue? question. i know i gained 19.5 horse by changing the muffler because i did a before and after run, but it shouldnt be so high over changing the muffler. should it?? and if so. what am i going to gain putting on a bigger TB and true cold air intake system. (actually i think it would be a ram air system)

That is a pretty big gain! By the end of the run on the Gen 1 Durangos, the factory had gotten the oem system to flow pretty well.

There are not a huge number of the upgraded 4.7's out there it seems which may explain why we don't see too much discussion on the forums.

As far as I know, the upgraded 4.7 did not suffer the same initially serious issues that the 04 and a few 05 Hemi did.
