09 Hemi 5.7 in My 04 Durango 5.7??
I found a good deal on an 09 hemi crate motor complete for cheaper than a reman engine. Its an 09 though and my durango hemi is a 04. I know parts are different but the motor is complete so is it possible to drop in the 09? What additional parts would I need to swap out other than the motor? I assume the computer but anything else? Tranny bolt up? All the sensors plugs the same? Thanks
There are no cut & dry answers that I've found to this question, but the short answer is stick with any 5.7 Hemi from the years between 2003-2006 if you have a Durango from those years and its pretty much a direct swap as long as the engine doesn't have the MDS system. If it does have mds, a couple mods may have to be done but certainly are within the scope of reason to do so. I'm new to the 5.7 Hemi game but am picking up several things quickly...
First off, you're going to want to get the updated cowl that diverts rain water better so as to guard against hydro locking that makes many 04-06 Hemi engines throw rods. The second thing you can do to prevent the hydro locking & rods snapping is to get new intake manifold gaskets & copper permatex them as an added protection against the chance of the engine sucking water up when the intake gaskets eventually get old & flatten out. If none of this is done you will throw a rod, most likely in the rear 4 cylinders of the motor...(where rain & water like to drain to).
