Question Oil level warning light problem & what spec oil to use

my oil level warning light sometimes doesn't go off in my 2004 dodge durango until car is restarted. The oil level is fine. It's the hemi 5.7 with 150,000 of mostly trouble free interstate travel. Always use Mobil 1 15,000 mile oil. Anyone else have this problem?

A related question: My manual says to use 10w-30 but the oil fill cap says 5w- 20. What's correct?

I had this problem the other day. I put some more oil in thinking it was the oil level light. It is not. That's a different light. This one is just for the oil pressure and the user's manual states that it will stay on until the vehicle is restarted.

So, my lesson learned was to not just assume the oil is low when the light comes on. Check it !!! If it's low then add some.

The oil pressure shows low on cold days initially with good reason; the oil is thick and getting it to pump could take a while so the "sensor" or whatever says "hey, I don't have enough oil pressure right now" and the light comes on.

I let it run for about a minute, shut if off, restart and the light is gone.

The oil sender units are a known issue on the Hemi engines. I started my 04 on day to find the oil pressure light staying on.
Shut her down and after a restart no light.
Replaced the sender, and no more issues.
It's a cheap part and easy to replace.

Thanks everyone! It was the oil pressure light that was on, not the oil level light. I will replace the sender next oil/filter change as it is located just above the filter. Since I live in south Florida, I don't think it's cold affecting the switch/sender, especially with 5w-20 oil...I have to believe it's the switch.

Man, I would love to move to the south. It was -11 on Tuesday morning and my water turned to a slushy on the way to my office.
