Default Air Intake and MPG question

Hello all,
I got a 05 HEMI limited fully loaded.
Recently I took the air filter out to see if I would notice an impovement in gas millage. Before according to the trip computer I was getting 16.9 MPG city driving. Now that I took the air filter out just to test the trip computer says I get 16.2 MPG on highway.
Any of you experienced or heard about gas millage reducing after going with an aftermarket air filter or Cold Air Intake? Why would my gas millage drop by taking the air filter?
Any suggestions?
My goal was to be able to improve my gas millage somewhat.
Thanks

1. More air = more power, not necessarily better mpg.
2. When you removed the air filter you probably didn't drive it long enough to get a good average.
3. Bad idea to run without an air filter, your sucking in all kinds of junk that will clog your throttle body, fuel injectors, etc. You will do
A LOT of damage to your motor. Also void your warrenty, because it was not operated with a air filter like it was designed.

I have a 04 Hemi SLT 4x4. I put in a k&n replacement filter, no intake and saw an overall increase of about 1 mpg. This has been seen over about 4000 miles of highway driving. I will typically get 21mpg according to the computer doing about 75 mph on the interstate.

Best bet for good fuel mileage with the hemi, run 55 to 60 mph and you'll easily see 20+mpg with a 3.55 rear end.

A misc response but maybe you should try reseting the MPG reader before starting your test. I didn't know that it can be reset until past weekend. [&:]

My Durango-05, with the Magnum 4.7L, gaves me 20.9mpg on highway driving here in Puerto Rico (for those who knows: from Ponce to Caguas including a 12 miles uphills from Salinas to Cayey). Probably it would be better MPG if everything was flat (maybe 1 more mile). I reset the MPG meter immediately after get in to the highway at Ponce. This also includes the Toll stops. Average speed below 65mph.

On regular city driving is around 14 mpg. Using the regular stock air filter.

PS: put back that filter pleeease!
