Default Aftermarket Radio in a VES OE equipped 06 Durango

Hello All!
I have a 06 Durango SLT 4x4 with the 5.7L. It came with the factory installed Video Entertainment System in the rear seating area and has the Alpine sound system. Well, lately my radio seems to cut on and off and sometime I can only change AM/FM/CD/SAT XM with my steering wheel controls because the buttons and ***** will not work. So, I attempted to outsource a new (used) radio from a salvage yard. They are asking over $250.

My question is, can I install an aftermarket radio? I mean I see alot of nice radios with lots of features I like (Bluetooth, HD Radio and etc) for alot less than $250. I am worried my VES will not work with an aftermarket system because it seems tied to the front radio.

Suggestions? Thanks so much for the help!
