Solution: Key Fob failure and car wouldn't crank
Hey folks,
This is my first time posting here. I recently had an issue with my 2007 Durango 4.7L not starting. I wanted to post this to help out anyone else experiences this problem. Also, I want to thank you all for your posts that lead me to the solution.
My wife went to start her car and the key FOB wasn't working. She got in the Durango and cranked it up. It ran for about 5seconds then shut off. This happened about 5 times then would not even turn over. The only noise was a click when turning the key. I replaced the battery, checked fuses, checked spark plugs for fluid and even messed around with the starter with no luck.
I took it to the dodge dealer because they programmed my key a year ago and my research on many forums suggested a PCM, BUS or security issue. The dodge shop took 3 hours of testing with "specialized" equipement to suggest the PCM was the problem. They would charge me 3 hours of labor and replacement of the PCM for around $900. I suggested they try to test and reset the security or FOB system. This ended up fixing the problem. This fix cost me $0 because they programmed the key a year ago. I hope this post will help anyone who goes through what I had to.
