Default Temperature Sensor, 2005 Durango 4x4 5.7 Hemi

Temperature Sensor
2005 Durango 4x4 5.7 Hemi
the warning light and buzzer came on. I was climbing a hill, very hot out, car fully loaded.
The gauge showed hot, all the way to the top. I pulled over and popped the hood, did not shut it off. It was Not hotter than normal, the overflow tank was not full or overflowing. It did not smell hot or have any signs of being over heated. I topped of the overflow tank, turned off the AC, and drove on. On the down slope the gauge came down to about 7/8s of the way up.

At home I rechecked all fluids, etc. all is normal. No history of overheating, but lots of bugs in the radiator. Used the hose and cleaned out the bugs. Made another drive in hot weather, same thing but not at the very top, no warning light, etc.

It must be the sensor. Found a photo on the internet showing the sensor just below the AC pump... I can not see it without removing a bunch of stuff: air box, fan shroud, etc.
1. Is that the correct location?
2. Autozone shows the sensor to be a $15 part. are they all the same?
3. the check engine light had been on for about a week first, I assume that is unrelated.

I live in Baja, Mexico and do not have ready access to a engine computer to see the trouble codes, and may have to order a new sensor and pay to have it imported, etc. = possibly quite expensive.

Ideas?

Thanks, Peter
