Holy hell I think I screwed up, if so lets keep the bashing to a minimum please and help with a solution
So I added oil instead of changing but I also got the wrong oil, I got the 10W-30 instead of the 5W-30.
Went on my trip and 3 hours away the oil light started flashing with the dinging noise. It wasn't steady tho. I was on the highway and wanted to get to the next exit. After about 2 or 3 minutes the light stayed on. I then noticed the temperature started to rise. I was finally got to an exit and before I got to the end of the ramp the temp was about 3/4 of the way up and it cut off.
Towed it to the nearest dodge dealer and they said I needed a new water pump and engine. The engine wont start, it tries for a second but that it. There is oil in it but its actually more than should be as its above the "safe" zone, prob too much. My dads friend is a mechanic and says possibly needs a new timing belt/chain.
Any other suggestion and why would I need a new water pump when the oil lamp came on?
The oil is a little thicker but should not matter but my durango goes though a water pump every 40,000 miles try changing the pump I don't see why it would need a new engine unless u did not have enough oil in it and burnt it up
I would not let them replace the engine yet def. the pump but not the engine have them drain all the oil and put correct amount in and then undo the battery reset computer Then try to restart

Ok so here is a little more detail. attached is a photo of the dipstick. The top safe zone is at 2 inches, the oil comes up to the 2 and half inch mark.
The radiator and coolant reservoir appear to be fine, meaning no oil in it.
I did take out 1 spark plug, and the tip had oil on it. So, what now? *edit* that's not oil on the nut on the spark plug. Its white powdery and the powered stuff rubbed off.
I did read that if there is too much oil it can get sloshed around and air mixed with it making it a thick substance and then prevent proper circulation. Unless that happened elsewhere the oil on the stick isn't thick, so I hope that's a good sign.
On another note, last year I had the a/c compressor pulley seize and the motor wouldn't turn. Is it possible the water pump can do that too?
I watched a video on how to change a water pump and it showed how a bad one leaked all over. Around the water pump on mine there are some white specks but I don't know if that's the same as what I saw.
