Talking Bad tranny issue, really bad. SOLVED!!!

Hi guys, i'm terrified casue i think my tranny is dead.

I own a Durango 2006 LIMITED, 5.7, 4x4 with the 545RFE Transmission (never flushed as far as ai know) with 90000 miles on the way. I boughth it used 3 years ago and worked fine.

The problem, yesterday i was driving on a mountain highway (comming from a mountain bike trail). I step on the gas to overpass a slow car in a straight line small hill, got about 45 mph at 4500 rpm and sudenly i heard a grind noise from under the car , the SVC 4WD came on and lost all power. Engine rev ok and seem working but the tranny just did'nt do anything. No gears or speed engaged like it was in neutral all the time and when tried to put it in Parking something started to grind, so i turned off the D and got towed home.

Today i checked the PCM with the Torque App, no codes or MIL beside the SVC 4WD light. The tranny oil seems ok, red and level. Also, like 8 months ago, i checked the oil level in tranny, trannsfer case, differential and put them on level. The engine starts and work fine, but the tranny doesn't work at all!!! The AWD-4x4 switch doesn't either and the Parking grind is still there. All the fuses under the hood seems ok but the D just won't move.

Never had a problem there before, except that sometimes a few months ago, when i turned on the engine in the morning after a full night rest and put it into Drive or Reverse, the truck took 2 to 3 seconds to move. And there's been a lot of rain where ai live lately, i've driven on streets with 15 inches of water.

Please, any idea or advice will be apreciated, i'm kinda DIY mechanic and I love my D but fear my tranny is gone.

Thanks a lot.

Talking Solved!!!

Great, my D is workiing again.

I hope this info helps someone in the future. As i wrote before, after have no answer from the forum and no ideas left in my mind, i towed the D to a tranny shop near by.

After 2 days, they called me. My tranny was perfect and the transfer case was ok too, the problem? The trasfer case shift motor actuator. That little electric motor wasn't working, that simple.

The new one from the dealer was 800 dls, but they offered a great condition used one with guarantee and instalation for only 300 dls, so i said yes. Next day, they call again to tell me the used one was'nt the exact model, so they couldn't install it. But having my actuator already removed, they checked it and it wasnt worn, the inside gears were misaligned ,so after a small alignment, reinstall and road test, the D is working great, all the power is back and the 4x4 feels as good as new.

The price?? they charged me 90 dls for the whole job . Something that simple caused me a lot of trouble so i hope this info helps somene in need. Look at that actuator, can make a mess, but easy to repair.

This is the best/ most detailed 46re rebuild walkthrough tutorial I have ever read, very intuitive and precise. I will say that after reading a few articles I decided to have a remanufactured 46re shipped to my shop for them to install instead of paying them to rebuild it. It ended up being cheaper than the rebuild and so far its lasted me just over 50k miles. Hats off though for doing it yourself, I could never. What do y'all think of these transmissions?
