alarm help
Hi everyone. I joined here to help an elderly neighbor of mine with his durango. it is an 05 and on saturday his only key stopped working for the remote. i checked the battery and still nothing. looked closer and part of the circuit board is cracked. I opened, the door and started the truck then the panic function enguaged and has been stuck on. did some online searching and nothing seems to work. i went to a local place and had a new key made it starts the truck but does not stop alarm. even by manually unlocking the door. does anyone have any feedback?
Manually unlocking the door with the key, will not disable the alarm. The alarm is set automatically when the vehicle is locked remotely. Locking the vehicle manually may not set the alarm. On some of these you can put the alarm in valet mode, by pressing the alarm LED/Indicator light, as it is a button as well on some models. If the alarm is already triggered, this will not turn off the alarm.
The key needs to be synced or re-programmed to match the alarm system and will not do so automatically. If it is a factory alarm, the dealership may be able to do this. If it is an after market alarm you would have to determine what model alarm it is and find instructions to add another key/ new key. If after market, you may be able to find the power wire to the alarm and disconnect it or pull a fuse to disable the alarm entirely.
On some alarms, there are switches or jumpers inside or one the alarm itself which perform various functions, like enable/disable auto arming, valet mode, etc.
On some this is the procedure for valet mode:
Press and hold the valet/override button below the steering column within five seconds of turning the ignition on( not started ).
Release the valet/override button when the security light on the instrument panel stops blinking. The alarm is reset and disabled.
You can try programming the alarm:
-Sit down in your Durango and close all the doors. Place your key in the ignition and turn it to the "Run" position. Don't crank the engine.
-Hold the "Unlock" button on the remote you want to program for five seconds. After five seconds, press and hold the "Panic" button until you hear a warning chime. Release both buttons.
-Press and release the "Unlock" and "Lock" button on the remote at the same time.
-Press and release the "Unlock" button. Listen for the warning chime. Turn the key to "Off" to complete the programming procedure.
Another Method for Programming a Key Fob:
-Press the "Lock" button and release it five times. The button must be pressed and released all five times in less than two seconds.
-Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the "Run" position.
-Wait for the dinging ignition alarm to stop.
-Press and hold the unlock button on the working remote for four to six seconds.
-Press the "Panic" button on the working remote while still holding the "Unlock" button.
-Release both the "Panic" and the "Unlock" buttons at the same time.
-Wait about three seconds. A dinging alarm should sound. It will sound like the ignition alarm. This alarm means that the car has entered a remote programming setting.
-Press and release both the "Lock" and "Unlock" button on the remote that needs programmed. Both buttons must be depressed simultaneously. This must be completed within 30 seconds of the alarm.
-Press and hold the "Unlock" button on the remote to be programmed until the car locks and unlocks the doors. When the locks on the car cycle, the remote is programmed.
-Remove your keys from the ignition of the car and exit the car. Test the remote for correct operation by locking and unlocking the doors.
Hope something here helps. If not determine what alarm it is and research the "program key fob for xxxx alarm"
