Aftermarket back up camera - headlight issue
I recently installed an aftermarket rear view mirror with back up camera in my 04 Durango. It works great as long as the headlights are off. As soon as the headlights come on the monitor goes blank.
I am using bluetooth connection from the back up camera to the mirror.
Initially I wired the connection into the trailer hitch harness and have since rewired directly into the rear backup light.
Once headlights come on the rear bluetooth transmitter loses power.
All the connections still have power (back up light & trailer hitch reverse connection).
Anyone have thoughts on what may be causing the issue and how to resolve?

I would think about pulling power from somewhere else and using a relay connected to the backup light as a signal to switch on your camera. The relay is going to draw considerably less watts/amps than the BT unit would. This would put your BT camera unit on it's own circuit while borrowing on/off switching from the backup light.
You could keep all your wiring under the hood and just run the BT power leads to the back...rather than trying to find a place to stick a relay... a thought.
