Question 2009 Hybrid

Hey everyone, I NEED help! I recently purchased a 2009 Durango Hybrid. I've never had a hybrid before and I'm starting to question if the dealer mislead me. The check engine light is on and the only code that comes up is for the hybrid battery. A huge expense to replace but I got a hell of a deal on the car with the assurance that the car would drive just fine without the hybrid battery. Well it's starting to act funny and I'm not sure if it's just the way hybrids drive and I'm not used to it or if I was lied to and it's not gonna run without that battery being replaced. I didn't see many posts about hybrids , so can anybody help me? My husband says call the Dodge dealer here in town but I'm kind of afraid they aren't gonna know or will just try to get me to bring it in and swear I Have to have a new battery. I'd really appreciate any input. Thank you

Sorry, but you are going to have to let the dealer handle this one. If it needs a new battery for the hybrid system, then it needs a new battery.

I would assume that the battery and engine work in tandem.
