Default 2005 With Intermittent Sirius Output

Our 2005 Durango LTD has the factory RAQ 6-CD Changer with Sirius Radio and VES DVD system. I have replaced the RAQ head unit a couple of times when the CD changer failed, and have even learned how to dismantle them to get my CDs out.

Now the Sirius XM system is having intermittent output failures, working for a while, then making a weird distorted sound and then nothing comes out. The display shows the channels and the song info changes, so it is seems to be still getting the satellite signal.

The CD player, AM and FM radio all work fine, so the head unit seemed to be getting signals to the amp for everything but the Sirius mode.

I thought it was probably yet another failing head unit, so I bought a replacement RAQ, installed it, but the problem persists.

I have sent reset signals through Sirius, unhooked the battery for a half hour to do a hard rest of everything, but the problem persists. I get about 10 to 15 minutes of satellite service when I first turn on the vehicle, then there is a weird distortion, then nothing. Switch to FM, AM or CD, everything is fine. Some times the signal returns, but it seems like that is getting rarer.

Is the satellite tuner failing? Bad antennae or wiring?

Also, is the satellite tuner in the headliner at the back, or in one of the rear side panels? I've read both on another forum...

Thanks to any help in troubleshooting the problem!
