Hello all! I'm looking at shopping for a hemi engined 4wd 2009 Durango. There aren't any near me, so I'm having to shop by net.
Are these traditional 4wd (rear wheel driven, but the transfer case switches int 4wd high or low) or are they all wheel drive all the time? Thank you!

 

Depends on the transfer case and year. The base was a traditional 2wd/4wd electronically selectable unit and the AWD models got a different one that used a lockable center differential to equalize the differences between front and back. There was little to no difference between the two in terms of fuel mileage.

I have an AWD model and absolutely love it. I have yet to encounter a road condition that it didn't feel absolutely rock solid.
