Oil leak behind crankshaft pulley
Hey everyone i drive a 04 durango with a 5.7 hemi. I bought it with 197,000 on it. Now its 204,000 so far i only had to change thermostat, pulley, and altenator. When i changed the thermostat i noticed a leak still dipping after letting it run. So the next day i put a pan where i saw the leak the night before and let it run after 10 mins something started leaking on the cross member. I looked further up and saw oil dripping from behind the pulley. I want do the work myself im not sure if its the oil seal or more that. Should i just change the oil seal or do the oil pump also?
its your decision....a lot more work to change the oil pump....timing cover, oil pan, drain coolant, alternator, rad hoses, idler pulleys. if your not having problems with it, i would leave it.
the seal can be changed with the timing cover in place. if your going to attempt the crank seal with no specialty tools...make sure to note the depth the seal is at; so you can put the new seal to the same depth.
