TCM Question
Ok guys, Here's the deal. 04 Durango SLT 5.7 2 speed 4x4, having issues and I'm tired of this shop throwing parts at it.
At 100k miles almost exactly the durango started to not shift into OD, and didn't feel like it had torque lock on any gear. So being times were hard and being in between jobs often, I never had the $1000 I was quoted to fix it. So I finally get the money, send it in. They tell me the solenoid pack and the encoder motor are bad. $1300 to fix. So they replace the pack and tell me they couldn't get the encoder motor off or could they even find one if they did. So they changed the AC switch attached to the system and everything with the 4wd was working fine. No issue there, however, my issue is the shifting. It's still not going into OD. Now they are telling me it needs a TCM AND PCM to fix the issue on the durango. Now this being said, I find that somewhat true, as before, if I reset the codes on the durango it would drive fine until the very next key cycle, then go back into limp mode. Now looking into it, I'm not finding any TCM for my durango and have been pointed to just replacing the PCM as I've been told the TCM and PCM are one unit now. If that is the case, fine, I'm happy, but if it's not, how can I get this fixed? I'd like to get a TCM and toss it in there and get my durango going again, but I don't have $1500 more for the shop to do it. I'm a semi mechanic for a living so I'm very mechanically inclined, but I'm not 100% familiar on the gas side of my mechanics. especially the transmission side of things. I'm running out of ideas and time. Any help here? What can I do or where can I go to get the parts needed to fix this, that won't cost me more than my house?
