Advice needed, Hemi Coil Pack Short
A couple years ago I had a squirrel get into my engine compartment and chew on the wire loom. The squirrel got some of the sheathing but no evidence of chewing through the wires. The truck has been running fine ever since.
I take the truck in for a tune up last week. The plugs and spark plug wires were changed. I drove it less than 100 miles and a coil pack melted. The garage replaced the coil pack. I drove it less than 100 miles and the same coil pack melted again.
Service station is stating there must be a short in the wires causing that one cylendar to receive a high voltage charge causing the coil pack to short. Obviously are blaming the squirrel damage for the issue.
I'm going to pick up the truck from the garage it's at tomorrow and bring it to the dealership. I know some info about the spark plugs and wires, and even less about the coil pack.
I'm expecting to pick it up from the garage tomorrow, and take it to the dealership. And I assume they will suggest to change the entire wire loom. (???)
If anyone has any experience with a coil pack shorting out, or what to discuss with the garage/dealer, I would be appreciate it.

I would move the coil pack from another cylinder and put the new coil pack into the other cyclinder that way you could see if it's a crappy coil pack brand that is the problem...
but i'm surprised that the garage didn't just offer you a fix. I would think replacing a short bit of wire would fix that problem.
What did you end up doing?
