Found a Hack for a Missing Spare Tire Lowering Tool
2009 Dodge Durango
I bought my truck but it didn't have the jack, tire iron, or (critically) the spare tire lowering tool. NO shop could find one for me, and they cost $100 on Ebay as part of an OEM kit.
BUT... I found a workaround that doesn't require the special tool to lower the spare tire. I'm sharing my $10 solution.
I bought a 3/8" drive, 3"long extension bar (Gearhead brand, model GH6080) which fits over the square "nipple" that cranks to lower the tire. It fits pretty well on it, and I turn it with a 3/8" crescent wrench to lower it. A little time consuming but it works.
If anyone wants to see pics of it for any reason, I'll post them. I was going batsh*t crazy looking for a tool, so I hope this helps someone out.
