just started up my 2007 Durango limited and the message No bus or bu5 came up on the ODO meter, all lights on the dash were going on and off, engine stayed on with gauges going to 0 then back up..
turned it off and on again started up and the engine died with same symptoms..

what is this problem and how can i fix it?

 

Start by connecting a code reader and see if there is any communications with the OBD port. Sounds like some sort of failure inside the cluster, it might go into theft mode as well if you're not careful.

 

update:

yesterday after work i went to test the car, it worked normally without any issues and drove it around the block..

connected a scanner and the only code that was present was a pending P1697
