05 durango 5.7l hemi. Engine is louder than it was
Hi guys i have a 2005 durango 5.7l hemi. I replaced the fan clutch for overheating and the gauge/ accelerator pedal and throttle body due to transmission problems now the engine when reved sounds like a lit more rpms than the gauge shows at 2000rpm it sounds like 4000 rpm. For the life of me i cannot figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.

Most of the available replacement fan clutches for the 5.7l applications are what they call "severe" duty. The clutch mechanism doesn't slip as much as the OE did so you get a lot more fan noise because it's spinning faster. Unless you can locate a NOS OEM clutch or go electric, you're pretty much stuck with just getting used to it.

Where did you buy the new fan clutch? I called a Dodge dealer in my town, they wanted ~$260.00. I'm working on my niece's 2005 Durango 5.7 Hemi (148K). She just bought the Durango about 2 months ago. I got the D and noticed the radiator and coolant recovery tank were leaking. I replaced the water pump and coolant tank (today), and will put in the new radiator tomorrow. From reading this forum for quite some time, I need to replace the fan clutch as well.

I have a 2005 5.7. I have been trying to diagnose and overheating problem for weeks now. when I replaced the fan clutch I noticed the exact same thing. With the old fan clutch I heard the exact same "roar" of the fan when I first started driving the car and it hadn't warmed up yet, but later it would go away. With the new one I notice it all the time (and it didn't help my overheating issue). Eventually I'll start looking more closely at some other aftermarket clutches and see if people mention whether or not that particular clutch had the roaring issue. But in the meantime the car runs fine, it just sounds like it's trying way too hard.
