4.7L Victor Reinz Valve Cover Gaskets
2nd time in 4 yrs had to replace the RS VC gasket on 2006 4.7L Durango, because of an oil leak.
At first, the Victor Reinz silicone gasket would not install into the cleaned, oil free VC groove.
It kept popping out.
5-6 times of cleaning the groove with carb cleaner and acetone while also wiping the silicone gasket w/ acetone.
Scraped the groove sides to roughen up, it finally held in place, somewhat.
The previous Felpro gasket didnt have this problem.
The Victor Reinz is thicker and wider.
The oil leak stemed from the VC rubber bolt isolator grommets solidifying.
Hard as rock, especially near the rear, closet to the manifold flange.
The grommets act like a spring washer. As its shrinks, tension loosens on the gasket.
Should of lasted more than 4 yrs.
I suppose any aftermarket rubber isolator will be inferior to OEM.
Maybe its a different rubber that cant tolerate the heat like OEM.
Also, checkd the composite VC surface around the grommet holes.
Mine had small cracks developing(165k mi). Again, probably from heat.
