Default 2005 Limited alarm issues

I've got a 2005 Limited, 5,7 engine, 180,000+ miles. I've had it for about 5 years, it's been a great vehicle and I really don't want to get rid of it. I enjoy no car payment!!

Several times a month, the alarm will go off for no reason. I assume it does so during the day when I'm not home, but it also does it in the middle of the night. When it starts going off, neither key will turn it off (most of the time). I have 2 keys that were programmed by the dealer. When this happens, I have to disconnect the battery to make it stop It most recently happened during a dive trip to Florida, and it woke up everyone in the house! Luckily I've just started keeping the right size ratchet & socket in the console so I can just pop the hood and disconnect the battery.

Occasionally when I unlock the doors and try to start the car, the alarm starts going off. The red light is blinking under the dash and I have to lock and unlock it several times to get the light to go out and make it possible to start the car.

I have tried disconnecting the battery and touching the cables together for several hours. I have also had to disconnect the battery to make the alarm stop, and then when I reconnect, it's OK for a few weeks. There's no rhyme or reason to when it starts happening, although it is very good at figuring out when I'm about 94.35% asleep!

Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, or personal experience with fixing this problem? I'm almost to the point where I am ready to disconnect the battery, then go trade it in. I REALLY do not want to do that!!

There’s a button on the red light, mine -is- the red light, other may have it slightly aaay from the red light but on the same module. Once you are in the cabin, insert key and turn to “on” but do not start, then press button. That’s the valet button.

to avoid that, the best way I’ve found is drive around until the auto door locks actuate. Then hop out, (if it is only you driving/in the car) and use the key to manually lock the door. The drivers door should unlock on its own when you open it while the rest stay locked. Don’t use the FOB buttons at all, either to lock it or unlock it on your next trip. It’s a pain in he @$$ but it works.

ultimately you’ll have to replace the electronic lock panel in the door as it’s gone and worn itself out.
