Default SVC 4WD light Randomly Goes On/Off

Hey all,

I have a 2007 Dodge Durango, and for the past week or two the SVC 4WD light has come on. Additionally, today when I was backing out of a parking spot and turning, it became sluggish and jerky like the parking break was on (or that it shifted into 4WD low on its own). I took it in and they didn't find anything directly but maybe some dirty connectors and gave me a laundry list of other items to repair instead.

I was looking online and found that there could be several things wrong such as transfer case motor (TCM), transfer case controller module (TCCM), transfer case wiring, etc. I also came across a video of a "band aid" fix - essentially pulling a fuse in order to keep the vehicle in whichever drive (2wd / awd / 4wd) that it was in at the time in order to prevent the shift.

Do any of you know which fuse that'd be on my year? I found a fuse case diagram, but am unsure as to which fuse would do the trick for keeping it from shifting into 4WD Low.

Still not sure where to go from here, but according to a few other sites potentially the Front Control Module (FCM) controls the 4WD for 2nd gen Durangos... the only problem is, there are FIVE different FCM fuses and they simply labeled BATT #1-#5.

Any thoughts?

Found out how to disconnect the Transfer Case Motor directly. For anyone else having this issue, here you go:

Transfer Case Shift Motor Failed/Open : Dodge Durango Electrical and Lights - RepairPal.com
The transfer case in the Dodge Durango has multiple gear ratios, which can be selected by moving the switch in the cabin to 2Hi, 4Hi, or 4Lo. It has been known to shift to 4Lo without warning, at any speed, and whether the vehicle is on or off.

I've done a bit of research and it seems to be a fairly common problem that the Transfer Case will try to shift on its own, get stuck in 4Lo, try to shift when turning into a parking space, among other odd behaviors like continue trying to shift while the rig is shut off, or when the key fob is...

Same thing happened on my 08 Aspen (basically a 2nd gen Durango). Started flashing the light, shifting in 4 low when trying to park and making the slicing sound when unlocking with remote. At first I just disconnected the harness from the TCM and put it in a ziploc bag with a zip-tie to protect the connection. I later replaced motor with an aftermarket one. This was a mistake as the aftermarket plug just isn't the same and I can't get the connector to plug in fully. So for now it just runs without the motor operational.

Just an FYI, the motor can be replaced without removing the front drive shaft. It's tight, but you can support the transmission with a jack stand and drop the crossmember to access it. Mine had a shield on it which was impossible to remove without dropping the crossmember anyway.
