06 ex-police Durango, 6 or 7 quarts of oil?
It has the 4.7L V8. I doubt it's an interceptor engine, if they even had that option then. Seller had a completely wrong oil dipstick in it. So short it did not register oil.
Seller remembered he had been working on several cars and gave me what he thought is the correct one. By appearance, it looks like one from a 1500 truck with
a 5.7l. So I ordered an oil dipstick from a Dodge dealer using the VIN number. By VIN number, everything points to 6 quarts and that works perfectly with the new dipstick.
There was 7 quarts in when I bought it. The fan shroud has 7 quarts written on it. Some Dodge dealership parts/service men say it's possible, but not likely, that it has a larger
oil pan because it was a sheriff's vehicle, and then a Highway Patrol vehicle. I don't want to run too high or too low on oil, so does anybody have any knowledge or good ideas?
