The modern AIRBAGs are "SMART BAGS" in that they are weight sensing. If there is no weight on the seat, then the light should come on, to say it is off. I know it sounds like crazy, but hear me out. The light comes on to indicate that the airbag is off and deactivated. The modern electronics in most motorized vehicles are coming to this. I work with aircraft that are like that. It is known as "DARK AND QUIET" so if there is no light on, the system is operative. With the light coming on, that is considered an "abnormal condition" and the abnormal condition is that there is no weight in that seat. Check it out next time, and observe. If it still stays on with a passenger in the seat then there might be a serious problem which based on a safety item I would recommend a mechanic visit. I am very reluctant to advise dealerships, based on their cost, and sometimes lack of efficiency in the oepration, but as a safety related item You might not have a choice, it may or may still not be under warranty. If I recall in your previous posts, it is a 2006 still under the 3/36. Since it is most likely in warranty I would recommend a dealer visit, you may even get a courtesy wash/vacuum out of it. Good luck!!!!

If there is no wieghtor an adult in the passenger seat the airbag should on and the lightoff. If there is light weight in the seat that makes it think there is a child in the seat it will turn the airbag off and the light will come on. The purpose of this system is to deactivate the passenger airbag when small children are in the front seat. Something else that will effect these systems is leaving something in the seat overnight or while the car is parked for a length of time. After the car sets for a period of time the module assumes the seat is empty and may zero the seat sensors, so after you remove the object the sensors sense a negative weight, which will tun on the light. The dealer is the only place I would let work on the airbag system.

Correct the only time the light will stay on is if a child is in front or a small package. If it stays on when nothing is in the seat something is wrong. If it stays on when an adult is sitting in the seat than something is wrong.
