Default Timing chain 2001 2.7

I am about to remove the old stretched chain, and when I tried to line up the marks as per Chiltons repair book, they do not line up... when the crankshaft mark is in line with the arrow on the oil pump, only the right (passenger side) camshaft alignment hole lines up with the colored link on the chain, the colored link for the left camshaft chain is 2 or 3 links away from the arrow on the left camshaft sprocket. But the trouble is thecolored link on the left camshaft has not reached the arrow as though the chain were shorter?? Or to put another way, the left camshaft chain colored link will never align with the arrow on the cam sprocket when the crankshaft is aligned.
What am I missing? The engine runs, I can't understand what I am seeing, I think the 2 colored links on the chain should be aligned to the arrows on the cams when the crankshaft mark is aligned with the mark on the oil pump, this is TDC or the exhaust cycle for #1 cylinder.
Question is do I align 2 of the 3 then rotate the cam till it aligns the 3rd. and put on the new chain?Help...

i believe you are saying you have not taken off the chain at this point, it takes over 4 - relvolutions of the engine to line up the marks, it blew my mind too but, they should line up.

hope this helps!

Thanks Albert, I just kept on turning the crankshaft and sure enough the three colored links lined up correctly.
