pcm or not to pcm?
2000 2.7 check engine light on for 2 years . car running ok but was bugging me. dealer was of no help. replaced water temp sensor but check engine light back on next day. got my money back. replaced o2 sensors since codewas 172 - rich condition, but check engine light remained. replaced cam sensor and thought hit paydirt. check engine light off and car ran good for a day with multiple stops and restarts. that was yesterday. today car cranks but does not start. took cam sensor back and got another. still no dice. replaced crank sensor just for kicks. no dice. checked and found i now have no spark at the plugs (but at least check engine light is not lit). using the old ignition key method i have a code in the pcm. it is 1684 - battery disconnected within last 50 starts. thats a big help. folks at autozone say most likely is the pcm. i find it extremely coincidental that this problem occurs day after replacing cam sensor (twice)but guess anything is possible. i am looking for thoughts from fellow intrepid owners. is a big ticket item. also, looking for any words from the wise relative to replacing pcm. thanx
