Default intrepid 98 low oil pressure

I have a 98, 2.7liter automatic transmission intrepid and the oil light will not turn off. I have changed the oil about two days ago and the light is still on. The only problem I notice with the car is when I stop on a hill it starts to smell like burnt clutch. any ideas on what the prbolem could be and how to fix it? COuld it be the same problem for both issues? thank you.

Default RE: intrepid 98 low oil pressure

I am sorry to say it is probably due to sludge build up in the engine (common ailment in the 2.7 if the oil is not changed religiously). It may be the oil pressure sending unit. I'd first ensure there is not a short on the signal wires by unplugging the sensor. If the light goes out, there are only 2 possible issues.

1. Low oil pressure (could be from sludge build up...need to run an oil detergent).
2. Bad sensor...replace it and see if it goes away.

Of course, if after unplugging the thing it keeps on acting up (the light remains on) then you have a whole different issue.

Good luck and let me know what happens.
