I have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid...has been driving fine. Check engine light came on tonight and it is P0441. Anyone know what that means?

It’s an emissions system that consists of the fuel cap, fuel tank, carbon canister, canister purge valve, interconnecting lines and hoses. It basically collects the gas fumes from your gas tank and stores them in the charcoal canister located in the engine compartment. Later when the engine starts/is running, the fumes are drawn out of the canister and burned thus reducing pollution by burning the vapor that otherwise would be vented into the atmosphere.

The code could be tripped by any of the components listed above, or by the gas cap just being loose. There could also be a vacuum leak in the system.

Probably the purge solenoid or a related vacuum line. Either way, you're gonna need a smoke machine and a good scanner (or DRB III) to correctly diagnose it.
