water pump
I have a 2.7 in a 02 Intrepid. The water pump started leaking through the weep hole. But after further checking I see coolant in my oil as well. Since the pump is driven by the timing chain, is it possible that the pump is leaking around the front seal which would expose the oil with the coolant? I did a compression check and it ranged from 150 to 180 psi. I started at the left front and it read the following:
Left front -150
Left middle- 170
Left back- 180
Right front-170
Right middle - 150
Right back - 165
I want to make sure that I don't have a head problem.
Before I did a compression check i pulled out all the spark plugs and they had a little gas residue but no coolant and I spun the motor over and nothing sprayed out.
Thanks in advance

I am going as if the heads are good. I removed valve covers and got the timing chain off. The pump bearing must be shot cause the shaft has alot of play in it. So I could see water easily leaking out of the front and into the oil.I had to turn the engine over about 5 times to get the timing marks lined up. I have the new pump installed and getting a new chain tomorrow. I will let you know how it comes out.
By the way, what will be the best thing to clean the oil and coolant mixture out of the engine?

Just so you know I changed the water pump, timming chain, chain tensionor and oil pump. Then I ended up changing the oil pressure sensor. Now I'm up and running. I will stick to my GM products when and if they breakdown. (if they ever). Before I get dogged for saying that I have a 95 silverado with a 5.7 and it has 246K on it. My dads driving 96 Olds with a 3.1 and it has 230K. my brother just retired is 88 chev with close to 300k. All the above only had minor maintenance. Mine did loose a water pump and it only took me 45 mintues to change.
