Default Sound System Stumper

I removed the old radio/cd player out of his 99 Intrepid to install a new system, however after having removed the old oneI am unable to get sound out of any of the speakers. I have checked that the new one is putting out sound on known good speakers and I have verified that the speakers still work by wiring sound directly to the speakers. But there is no sound when using the existing wiring. I also noticed that the wires that are attached directly to the speakers are different colour combinations than what shows up at the wire harness connector. I suspect that this means the wires go to another device like a factory amp or somehting. I have checked all the fuses in the panel and there are not any blown fuses. I do not have a wiring diagram to check this theory. Can anyone lead me in the right direction please. Thanks, Deemster

Do you have the Infinity sound system? If so, there is an AMP in the trunk. If the midline system, its in the cab, passenger side, near the air circulation motor.

2nd gen intrepids have the amp in the right front kick panel. 1st gen have the amp in the trunk. the difference in the wire color is because the wires go from the radio to the amp then from the amp to the speakers.

According to the 2nd gen service manual, it can be in either location depending on which sound system is installed (Infinity I or II).
